CEC Golf Design Group Redesigns the Riverside Country Club Golf Course

Greater Valley Area residents seem to love playing golf. It is the most popular amenity at Riverside Country Club is the golf course. The 9-hole golf course used to be plenty sufficient, but population growth in the Greater Valley Area—brought by Kia and military expansion at nearby Ft. Benning—inspired the building of new home communities such as Quail Run and Riverside Estates. With many new developments in the works, Riverside Country Club began ambitious renovation and expansion to prepare for growth in membership.

Riverside Country Club is now a state-of-the-art, championship 18-hole course. In addition to adding new holes, CEC Golf Design Group modified the original nine holes by reconstructing all of the greens to fit USGA specifications. The design group also added new bunkers and a challenging par 3 hole along the lake. For those looking to warm up before hitting the new course, a new practice facility that includes large tee boxes, putting and chipping greens has also been added.

The full course is expected to open in early Spring 2010. For those avid golfers who want to play now, the new nine holes are open. The Riverside County Club is semi-private, allowing non-members the chance to play every Tuesday through Thursday. Call the Pro Shop at 334-644-4503 to arrange your next tee time.

Atlanta Golf Community Gives Back

Henry County's premier golf community, Heron Bay Golf & Country Club offers residents much more than a spectacular golf course. In addition to being known for fast greens, challenging par-3's and perfectly manicured fairways, this Atlanta golf community is known for their philanthropic efforts.

This holiday season, Heron Bay is back again for the community's annual canned food drive. For the past month, residents have gathered together cans of food and non-perishable items which were donated to three local charities: The Haven House, A Friends House and Five Loaves and Two Fish Food Pantry.

In November, each Heron Bay resident was given a grocery bag donated by Publix. They were asked to fill the bags and leave them outside their doors, where volunteers could come by to pick them up. There was also a donation box in the Heron Bay Lodge and residents were asked to take a box into their offices to increase the amount of food collected. The response was overwhelming. Over 150 bags of food were collected and the Heron Bay community was able brighten the lives of those less fortunate.

The annual food drive is just one of the many activities and charity events that Heron Bay residents participate in throughout the year. The close-knit community can often be found together whether it be at the annual Christmas party or getting ready for the semi annual Heron Bay Garage sale. Weekends are spent on the golf course, in the clubhouse or by the pool, making this neighborhood the perfect home for any golf enthusiast.

6th Annual Goblin Gallop at Heron Bay Golf & Country Club

It's that time of the year again, time for the leaves to change colors, time to go apple picking and time to participate in the Goblin Gallop. The cooler weather that Georgia has been experiencing is perfect for the Atlanta race, which is scheduled for October 24th.

The race takes place at Heron Bay Golf & Country Club, and generally consists of many Heron Bay residents. Of course, you don't have to be a resident to participate in the Goblin Gallop, and we encourage you to spread the word to all of your friends and family members. Because the more participants, the more money that gets donated to the Hands of Hope Clinic, Henry County's only free medical and dental facility. Yes, all proceeds from the Goblin Gallop benefit this local non-profit organization, so you are running for a good cause.

And, the race is not called the Goblin Gallop for no reason. Participants are encouraged to run in their Halloween costumes, and prizes will be awarded to the most creative costumes. The race consists of three different events: 6K fun run, 1 mile run/walk and tot trot. So, no matter what your current level of fitness, this is an event fun for the whole family. Pre-registration is encouraged, but same-day registration will also be available beginning at 4:00 p.m. on race day. The races will then commence at about 5:00 p.m.

See you there!
